FOWGLFM have been engaged in restoration and conservation projects at Werribee Gorge and Long Forest for over 35 years.
An on-going project that commenced over 10 years ago.
Serrated tussock is a serious weed in the area.
Since 2019 we have been experimenting with double guarding our plantings.
A project to rehabilitate a degraded valley in the northern section of Werribee Gorge State Park.
We are trialling the use of an outer wire guard, an inner milk carton guard and a eucalypt planted with a fragrant saltbush.
We have hosted students from Myrniong Primary School for annual planting days at this site.
A paddock at the southern end of Meikles Point Picnic Area has been degraded by past farming practices. In 2021, FOWGLFM received a grant from the Moorabool Shire Council to construct an all-abilities path in the area, with seating, plantings and interpretive signage. There are significant challenges from degraded soil, weeds, rabbits, kangaroos, wandering stock and even the odd 4WD!
The project aims to provide a short, instructive walk for all fitness levels.
As revegetation works continue, the walk will become a place of quiet reflection for all visitors.
We have recently installed two seats along the trail.
