Formed in 1984, the Group's aim is to care for the Werribee Gorge State Park and Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve, two places of natural significance, close to Bacchus Marsh in Victoria.
Our parks are located within the Shire of Moorabool in Victoria.
The Group typically meets for a Project Day on the third Saturday of the month, 10 times per year, for tree planting, weeding, track maintenance, weed spraying, seed collecting and other tasks, as needed.
Our Project Days provide an opportunity to personally contribute to the environment of our Parks and Reserves and socialize with like-minded people. Our Project Days mix task work with picnic lunches and morning teas in beautiful natural settings with time to observe and appreciate the flora and fauna. Occasional nature walks within the Parks and Reserves are also held.
Members of our group have a wide variety of interests that include all aspects of the environment, botany, geology, bird watching and photography. We also participate in other annual events such as Clean Up Australia Day in March and the annual Grow West Community Tree Planting Day.
Our group works in close partnership with Parks Victoria and we highly value the dedication and knowledge of Parks Victoria Rangers.
We have a wide range of age groups, interests and working backgrounds. We welcome people of all abilities, ages, genders and cultural backgrounds. We have tasks for those less able and tasks for more energetic members.
So, whether you are passionate about our environment and want to make a difference, or you just want to spend more time outdoors in a relaxing bush setting with friendly people, you are always welcome to join in and get your hands dirty with FOWGLFM!
We welcome all volunteers to our project days! Please feel free to come for the whole day, or just for a few hours.
Membership fees
Our membership fees are: $15 for singles, $30 for families (payable at the start of each year at the AGM in February or at your first attendance of the year).
Register your attendance on Park Connect
As we generally work on Parks Victoria-managed land, all our volunteers are required to register their attendance on the Park Connect website - https://www.parkconnect.vic.gov.au/Volunteer/. Please sign up to the site and "join" each activity you attend.
Working with Children Checks
You can attend one event with FOWGLFM, to get to know us, and beyond that you will need to apply for a Working With Children Check. This is free. Please follow these instructions when applying for your card. You will need to provide a photograph of your card to our Secretary once it has been received.
We have adopted a Child Safe Policy and each volunteer must read and accept this when participating in our activities.
